There is a great TV show in England (the only one as far as I have found) called Dr. Who. It has been around since 1963, but I am most familiar with the new shows. Outside the Earl’s Court tube stop there is a 1950’s style police box. In the TV show one of these is called the Tardis, which is the doctor’s time machine and space craft.

Doctor Who is an absolute icon in the UK Brian.
In fact even growing up in Australia, we used to get the old Doctor Who series on the ABC. It was brilliant and probably the best introduction to a sci-fi television series you could ever hope for as a kid. Granted the special effects have come along leaps and bounds in the new series, but for me you cannot beat the Tom Baker & Jon Pertwee years (3rd & 4th generation Doctors). The opening theme music was enough to send me and my siblings scared out of our wits, especially if it was a Dalek episode.
Actually speaking of good English programs and Doctors, why don’t you try watching Doc Martin on a Monday night. It’s on ITV at 9pm Mondays. This is a drama set in Devon/Cornwall and centres on the life of an emotionally defunct Doctor. It is very quirky, very funny and quintessentially English.
